  • Overview

    The Road Foreman is responsible for the overall supervision, training, certifying, and efficiency testing of railroad personal.

    Responsibilities

    • Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.
    • Required to learn and safely operate diesel & steam railroad locomotives and all related equipment efficiently.
    • Responsible for organizing, developing, maintaining, and presenting training materials for railroad personal to comply with ACC, FRA, and Grand Canyon Railway standards for certifications of all rail road personal.        
    • Will need to travel to mainline locations, the South Rim, and yard facilities at least once a week for inspection of operations. Observe and test railroad personal in daily process, procedures and safety.
    • Maintains level of acceptable performance, to complete tasks in a professional, productive and efficient manner.
    • Maintaining Locomotive Engineer and Conductor certifications.
    • Maintains and complies with the GCOR and all applicable federal laws and regulations.
    • Initiates and completes the required documentation and files mandated by FRA, ACC, & Xanterra for certification of Engineers, Fireman, Conductors, and Foreman & Carmen.
    • Completes responsibilities in a manner that will ensure the quality and safety of our guests’ experience.
    • The Road Foreman of Engines will be required to qualify and work as Engineer, Fireman, Conductor, Carman, or other positions based on individual qualifications and staffing requirements.
    • Will be responsible for analyzing data from locomotive event recorders.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Current or previous certified locomotive engineer with 3 years’ operating and safety rules experience; including working knowledge of 49 Code of Federal Regulations, specifically Parts 217, 240, 242, 214.
    • Must be a certified steam locomotive engineer within 2 year of acceptance of position.
    •  Must have two years of supervising, directing, or being a team leader, with strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
    • Must possess a valid/clear Arizona Driver’s License in order to comply with Xanterra Parks & Resorts and GCR vehicle /equipment operation policy.
    • Previous railroad experience as Steam Engineer, Fireman, Conductor, and MOW operations.
    • Certified in 1st aid and CPR is preferred.
    • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish skills is preferred.
