Director of Grounds and Golf Maintenance is responsible for the total operation of an eighteen-hole resort golf course as well as grounds at both resort locations. This is a year round position reporting to the General Manager.
Full fiscal accountability for the department including the development and implementation of the annual operating budget as well as capital planning.
Responsible for the selection, training and development of all departmental personnel including the grounds crew, mechanics, course marshals, horticulturist, and Golf Professional.
Responsible for all areas of grounds and golf maintenance including but not limited to equipment maintenance, landscaping, fertilizer/chemical applications, employee management, and irrigation management.
Keep and maintain accurate and complete records including, but not limited to payroll, inventory, water usage, maintenance procedures, fertilizer and pesticide applications, hotel, local, state, and federal training documentation, safety and environmental standards and laws and regulations.
Conduct facility inspections and supervise/manage minor golf course/landscaping construction, restoration, and tree management projects.
Ensure that all equipment and golf carts are being maintained correctly and used safely and efficiently.
Maintain knowledge of current and projected industry developments through continuous attention to industry periodicals and participation in relevant trade associations and organizations.
Responsible for the control and maximization of tee times. Work with Sale and Marketing as well as Retail to maximize rounds played and revenue generated.
Promote and administer tournaments and other golf course activities for guests and employees alongside and in the absence of a Golf Professional.
Ensure the accurate and timely completion of administrative paperwork as is required.
Interact with the Retail department as to staffing and operations of Golf Pro Shop.
Ensure that OSHA safety procedure and Environmental Standards are adhered to and that ongoing safety training is conducted.
Maintain close, productive working relationship with other Resort department heads and the National Park Service as it relates grounds facilities and natural resources, golf cart usage, and golf course functions, policies and activities.
Maintain current standing with appropriate golf and grounds related clubs and associations.
Maintain proper pesticide application licensing and record keeping.
Ensure that all Golf activities are accomplished so as to maximize guest satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring that all employees are aware of the “Our Softer Footprint” Policy, Xanterra’s company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) and their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance to the policy.

Previous Golf Course Superintendent or Horticulturist experience at a high level.
2 or 4 year turf degree or related field.
Demonstrated ability to lead and direct Golf Course and landscaping personnel.
Budgetary management experience.
Willingness and ability to work as part of a Resort management team.
Strong attention to detail, passion for excellence and a positive attitude.
Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
