    Assist the Director of Engineering in the day to day functions of the physical plant, maintenance and facilities operations at the South Rim of Grand Canyon. 

    Responsibilities

    • In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director will assume all management responsibilities for the entire maintenance, engineering and project operations. 
    • Administer the park wide maintenance program as defined by the Annual Maintenance Plan as well as for reactive maintenance.
    • Supervise the Maintenance Manager and ensure that all maintenance work orders, tasks, and service contracts are scheduled and accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Supervise the CMMS Manager and coordinate park wide maintenance procurement transactions to ensure timely and economic procurement of maintenance materials and services.
    • Assist the Director in monitoring input into the computerized maintenance system (INFOR) and accounting system (Lawson) to maintain data integrity and optimize use.
    • Assist with creating the department’s budget and oversee expenditures and labor to meet department financial plan.
    • Ensure all NPS-required NEPA and Section 106 compliance is planned, submitted for approval, and then programmed.
    • Supervise the Engineering Training Specialist and assist with training of facilities and project employees and ensure all assigned staff receives proper training and documentation.
    • Assist with compiling, evaluating, and disseminating all NPS-generated Condition Assessment deficiencies, Environmental Audits, and NPS Inspections and Periodic Evaluations for timely completion and documentation.
    • Assist with all assigned capital projects from conception through completion, maintaining all required project file documentation   including all LSI documentation required for NPS submittals.
    • Assist with the planning of new facilities, remodels and installation of new equipment using contractors or company staff.
    • Work closely with various National Park Service divisions on facility maintenance, abatements, and compliance issues.
    • Assist compiling data for the company’s annual and 5 year Maintenance plan including Capital Expenditure, Repair and Maintenance Reserve (RMR), Preventative Maintenance, and Fixture replacement.
    • Responsible for the monthly expenditures variance report.
    • Responsible for verification and approval of the Kronos timekeeping and payroll report.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, General Construction or 5 years of equivalent experience.
    • Demonstrated management experience and supervision of direct reports.
    • Experience with INFOR/EAM or other CMMS program, including report analysis and action planning based on conclusions
    • Knowledge of physical plant operations including boilers, generators, pumps, water/waste treatment, gas/fuel lines and power lines.
    • Knowledge of construction, mechanical and specialized trade skills.
    • Experience with developing and managing financial plans.
    • Experience with Word, Excel, and various engineering software programs.
    • Knowledge of rules, regulations and laws concerning environmental issues, risk management and safety.
    • Knowledge of and practical experience with applying Historic Preservation guidelines and techniques.
    • Must possess physical agility to ascend/descend a ladder or scaffolding, tour construction sites, and enter confined space.
    • Possess or obtain a valid Arizona Driver’s License, and comply with the company Driver Safety Program.
