    Primary duties: include collecting and redistributing recycled materials at one of seven Yellowstone locations. This important position allows Yellowstone employees to live their values by keeping materials out of landfills and helping sustain the planet for future generations!


    Reporting relationship: The Location Recycling Technician reports directly to their area's Location Manager; indirectly to the Warehouse Manager in Gardiner; and to the Sustainability Program Manager at Mammoth Hot Springs.


    • Collect all recyclable materials for the assigned location.
    • Sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.
    • Collect and process all location cardboard as applicable.
    • Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation standards.
    • Safe operation and routine care of location recycling vehicle.
    • Work with Park-wide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of our collection vendor, 4 Corners Recycling.
    • Safe operation of cardboard balers and glass crushers.
    • Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.
    • Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.
    • Assist with other duties and programs as assigned, such as waste assessments and new program development and implementation.



    • Must be at least 21 years of age (could drive a vehicle over one ton).
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license, ability to safely operate 1-ton standard transmission vehicle.
    • Must have ability to work with a minimum of supervision to complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner.
    • Respiratory protection will be worn when required. OSHA standards require a clean-shaven face and a medical screening may be required.
    • Knowledge of recyclable materials, processing methods, and collection systems.
    • Knowledge of waste management and overall park-wide environmental programs in order to serve as a resource for fellow employees and park visitors.


    • To work with all departments on location to set pickup times and pickup sites for recyclables.
    • To help educate departments on location on waste and recycling guidelines to maximize effectiveness of waste diversion efforts.
    • To work with Parkwide Recycling Technician and the Gardiner Recycling Center, and Sustainability Department to maintain standards set by Xanterra Parks and Resorts and NPS.


    • Must be able to lift weights of up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to stand and bend throughout an 8 hour shift.
