  • Overview

    Professionally direct, design, support, and implement all Xanterra at Mount Rushmore, Human Resource related functions to include (not limited to): Recruitment, Hiring, Benefits, Employee Housing, Employee Transportation, Employee Recreation, Employee Relations, Personnel Record Management, Employee Recognition, and Training and Development.


      • Fully understands and supports Xanterra’s Mission Statement and Core Values.
      • Have a thorough knowledge of both Xanterra Parks & Resorts and Mount Rushmore specific policies and procedures. Ensure all policies and procedures are current and always in compliance with related local, state, and federal employment laws.
      • Design, implement, and manage a successful recruitment process to fill 175+ seasonal jobs and year-round positions annually seeking the highest quality applicants available.  To include advertising, job description maintenance, application screening, interviewing, background checks, extension of job offers, e-recruit management, and EEO recordkeeping.
      • Work directly with department heads to evaluate staffing and hiring needs and ensure staffing needs are met in a timely manner. 
      • Employee conflict resolution coordination and oversight. Serve as the first point of contact for all Harassment, Retaliation, or Discrimination allegations. Complete all investigations according to company standards.
      • Have a thorough working knowledge and hands-on experience using LAWSON (HRIS) for data entry, employee record keeping, reporting, and benefit management.  Serve as a liaison for Payroll Administrator.
      • Develop and implement onboarding processes of all employees, including updating pre-employment paperwork, management of onboarding workflows in iCIMS, following up on necessary paperwork and facilitating orientation.
      • Oversee uniform ordering, inventory, assignments, and supplies while staying within budget constraints.  
      • Organize and implement employee special events staying within company standards and budget constraints.
      • Administer Xanterra company benefits for all eligible employees, including the Open Enrollment process.
      • Manage all aspects of company owned and operated housing (i.e. room assignments, inspections, maintenance, etc.) including both dormitories and RV areas. Coordinate with Maintenance Manager to ensure that facilities meet company and NPS standards of cleanliness, safety, and required ratios.
      • Assign dorm rooms, guest room reservations, and advise cleaning and maintenance needs to maintenance/custodial department.  Coordinate enforcement of resident conduct rules, and administration of employee discipline with Security Manager.
      • Coordinate with NPS and oversee medical transportation needs of employees from Mount Rushmore to town.
      • Design, implement, and monitor all employee training needs including company and/or NPS required training or those required by other local, state, or federal agency.
      • Supervise Employee Recreation, program and functions. Ensure adequate opportunities are provided in a safe manner.
      • Coordinate, schedule, oversee, and ensure safe and quality employee (onsite) shuttle service is provided during the summer season.
      • Develop, implement, and oversee a park-wide Employee Recognition program for seasonal and year-round employees within budget restraints.      
      • Serve as a resource and offer guidance to all levels of management with respect to Human Resources issues, Company policy and procedure and employment law. Possess up-to-date knowledge of recent developments in the area of employment law and particularly South Dakota State employment law.
      • In conjunction with General Manager and/or Controller, prepare and administer annual budget for Human Resources, Housing, and Employee Recreation departments.
      • Assist in the development and implementation of annual wage package for Company employees.
      • Monitor, report, and oversee implementation of Company Affirmative Action program.
      • Schedule, motivate, provide timely feedback, and address all performance issues for all direct reports.
      • Participate in senior management staff meetings as required communicating effectively with the General Manager and other team members.
      • Be available as scheduled to cover assigned Manager on Call/Manager on Duty duties as assigned. 


    Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses, Etc. (all certifications, licenses, etc. must be current):

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field required.
    • PHR/SPHR highly preferred.
    • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
    • TIPS and ServSafe certification desirable.
    • First Aid and CPR preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:  

    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in human resource management with increasing responsibilities for managing people and processes.
    • In-depth knowledge of EEO/AA laws, employment and Labor Relation laws, principles, and practices.
    • Strong leadership skills including excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills that demonstrate flexibility and an ability to work with a very diverse stakeholder group.
    • Excellent planning, organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
    • Sound reasoning and decision making skills with the ability to make objective judgments using the factual information available.
    • Demonstrate professional boundaries expected of senior leadership.
    • Maintain high quantity and quality performance in a fast-paced, frequently changing, demanding environment.
    • Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
    • Excellent business communication skills including the ability to present information to large groups of people.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
    • A working knowledge of Kronos timekeeping, Lawson, and e-recruiting preferred. 



    • Prior experience with National Parks or seasonal operations a major plus.
    • Must be able to work all shifts including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
