Overview

Oversee and inspect the work of assigned housing staff to ensure that attendant duties are accomplished, personnel are assigned to various duties and maintaining housing vehicles. Work alongside housing staff to provide housing services and support to South Rim employees.  Assist the Housing Manager in running the day-to-day operations of the housing department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to new and existing employees in the handling of all housing needs and processes.
  • Whenever possible greet new employees, introduce them to the dormitory proctor and provide new employee with information on dormitory living.
  • Assist with all Housing Office functions to include: employee checkouts, Housing Attendant duties, maintenance requests, housing incident follow-up and employee guest passes.
  • Coordinate with Housing Clerk regarding employee check-in /checkout, and administratively assist with employee room changes.
  • Assist newly arrived employees with moving in and with resident room changes.
  • Oversee and participate in the relocation of furniture as requested by employees, and assist residents with luggage as needed.
  • Assist Housing Manager in enforcing house rules in dormitories, giving support to Residence Coordinators for enforcing same. Reconcile routine housing issues with employees in absence of Housing Manager.
  • Ensure that monthly manual smoke detector checks are completed in designated areas.
  • Assist Fire and Security with dormitory fire drills.
  • Ensure that exterior of dormitory buildings are litter free and meet fire defensible perimeter requirements.
  • Coordinate and complete special projects as assigned by the Housing Manager. These will frequently be large scale projects involving volume furniture relocation, deep cleaning and ongoing coordination of staff to achieve goals. Work with dormitory proctors on special assignments for their building(s).
  • Perform the daily tasks of all housing department staff when required.
  • Maintain a courteous and helpful demeanor with all employees and residents.
  • Maintain Housing Van ensuring that routine maintenance is completed as recommended, vital fluids are regularly checked and any mechanical problems are reported and fixed immediately.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment while performing duties, and adhere to all safety and risk management policies.
  • Comply with all National Park Service Concessions Housing Policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities. 
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to handle difficult conversations with candor and respect.
  • Good verbal communication skills to direct personnel to assigned duties
  • Physical ability to lift fifty pounds to shoulder height and possibly carry for example, furniture, up or down one flight of stairs.
  • Ability to interact and present a positive appraisal of dormitory living to new employees.
  • Familiarity with Grand Canyon National Park Lodges employee housing locations, facilities and room types.
  • Ability to follow up and follow through on assignments, particularly NPS noted discrepancies.
  • Must possess valid Arizona driver’s license and comply with the Grand Canyon National Park Lodges Driver Safety Program.
