Overview

Holds position of Structural Captain in the Grand Canyon Fire Department and Manages the Xanterra South Rim Fire & Security Department.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day to day operations of Fire & Security department.
  • Maintains position as Structural Captain in the Grand Canyon Fire Department working to maintain positive working relationship with NPS.
  • Works closely with the National Park Service Fire Chief and Law Enforcement Rangers regarding training, fire alarm responses, and command and control.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and scheduling of Officers. Reviews incident reports filed by Officers.
  • Evaluates training programs for Officers to include firefighting certifications, emergency medical services certification and/or security training. Also researches, orders, and maintains latest educational materials required for security, fire, and EMS training.
  • Works with Tusayan Fire Department to ensure effective mutual response support. Also, works with the TFD Chief to ensure Wildland interests are served for company properties in Tusayan. 
  • Works with Risk Management Director to establish and administer Fire & Security financial plan including research and determination of purchases of department equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Conduct property safety inspections of all major building locations. Prepare documentation on inspection findings, coordinate need for repairs with Engineering Maintenance Manager or department managers to correct internally.
  • Arrange contractor and vendor services for support of firefighting equipment. Track and submit invoices for payment.
  • Works closely with Housing department to lower risk of fire in company residences.
  • Oversees maintenance and use of assigned company vehicles (including the fire apparatus).
  • Responsible for maintenance of company issued communications equipment.
  • Develops and administers theft prevention programs.
  • Implement and administer security procedures, route patrols, reporting guidelines.
  • Implement and guide fire alarm procedures and response policies for Fire & Security Firefighters.
  • Work with Risk Management, Housing, (and other applicable) Departments to conduct regular scheduled fire evacuation drills, alarm tests and fire extinguisher training.
  • Work with National Park Service Fire Management to coordinate training exercises, maintain equipment inventory and condition, and review fire management policies.
  • Work with National Park Service Law Enforcement to review security procedures and response procedures.
  • Assists Human Resources management as needed with disciplinary discussions and employee terminations.
  • Assists National Park Service Law Enforcement with investigations.
  • Perform BAT and Urinalysis testing on employees per company policy as needed.
  • Responsible for maintenance/upkeep of Station Two.
  • Responsible for key control and security of all keys used by department.
  • Ensures that assigned staff is adhering to all safety, risk management and environmental policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in security work preferably in a hospitality or industrial setting
  • Arizona State Structural Firefighter I/II (or state equivalent), HazMat First Responder, and EMS (EMT-B). Ability to meet all medical and physical agility requirements for firefighters in accordance with the   National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001.
  • Wildland (S-130/S-190) preferred, or complete within one year of hire.
  • State Firefighter I Instructor/Evaluator, Fire Officer I [or equivalent Officer Class]. Certifications should be obtained within one year of promotion to Captain..
  • ICS 100, 200, 700 must be completed within six months of hire.
  • Obtain Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Certification within two years of hire.
  • Successfully complete Engineer/Operator certification within eighteen months of hire.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining firefighting apparatus, including operating and maintaining all necessary truck accessories (pumps, error codes/scanning, fire hardware, foam equipment, etc.).
  • Proven ability to train new employees in detailed procedures regarding security or firefighting.
  • Experience with NFPA and OSHA fire-related regulations.
  • Excellent written communication skills as they relate to writing reports and ability to train staff in proper report writing.
  • Strong experience in computers, including report software, patrol logging systems, payroll tracking, word processing, spreadsheets, email, document archiving/scanning, digital photography (and downloading).Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to conduct effective radio communications.
  • Willingness to work any of the three shifts when required.
  • Working knowledge of fire and security alarms, associated equipment, and troubleshooting.
  • Possess or obtain valid Arizona Driver’s License and comply with the Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy.
