Overview

These seasonal positions typically run from mid-April to late October. Exact dates will be determined by location. Bonuses are provided for contracts completed to full term. Locations include: Old Faithful, Lake Yellowstone Hotel, Grant Village, and Canyon Lodge.
  
These postions include A) LEAD RECYCLER (with advanced responsibilities and experience required, noted by distinct headings below) & B) RECYCLING TECHNICIAN (entry level position). You may indicate which one you prefer to apply to.

 

Primary duties: include collecting and redistributing recycled materials at one of seven Yellowstone locations. This important position allows Yellowstone employees to live their values by keeping materials out of landfills and helping sustain the planet for future generations!

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:  Reports directly to area Location Manager, indirectly to Gardiner Warehouse Manager and Sustainability Program Manager.

 

Responsibilities

 

A) LEAD RECYCLER           Starting wage $11.75

 

15-20% of time  

 

1. Comply with and help administer Xanterra’s environmental management system policies and procedures at assigned location.

2. Provide training to and supervision of less experienced Location Recycling Technician(s).

3. Provide direct feedback to department managers on recycling processes and performance using existing company guidance and a collaborative, educational approach.

4.  Initiate or attend departmental meetings and related communications to actively engage location staff with recycling tips and basic support of sustainability program implementation. 

 

80-85% of time

 

1. Work with Parkwide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of Four Corners Recycling and to notify vendor of material pick-up scheduling needs.

2. Assure efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location.

3. Sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.

4. Process all location cardboard as applicable using baling equipment.

5. Safe operation of cardboard balers and other equipment.

6. Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation and resource management standards.

7. Responsible care of location recycling vehicle including safe operation, compliance with all traffic and safety laws, assurance of company vehicle cleanliness, and daily maintenance and safety checks.

8. Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.

9. Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.

10. Work safely to avoid injuries and accidents, including the proper Personal Protective Equipment (mainly gloves and footwear).

11. Maintain a diligent, positive attitude amid busy work and visitor conditions and support mentoring of Location Recycling Technician(s).

12. Assist with other duties and programs as assigned.

B) RECYCLING TECHNICIAN       Starting wage $11.00

 

1. Efficient collection of all recyclable materials for the assigned location.

2. Sort recyclable materials from unrecyclable materials.

3. Process all location cardboard as applicable using baling equipment.

4. Safe operation of cardboard balers and other equipment.

5. Maintain the location recycling area(s) to sanitation and resource management standards.

6. Responsible care of location recycling vehicle including safe operation, compliance with all traffic and safety laws, assurance of company vehicle cleanliness, and daily maintenance and safety checks.

7.  Work with Parkwide Recycling Technician to ensure processing of recyclables meets the standards of recycling contractor.

8. Safe operation of all rental equipment in use, including not overriding any equipment safety features.

9. Work with Sustainability Department to assess waste management opportunities, improve effectiveness of diversion program, and implement program changes as needed.

10. Assist with other duties and programs as assigned, such as waste assessments and new program development and implementation.

11. Work safely to avoid injuries and accidents, including the proper Personal Protective Equipment (mainly gloves and footwear)

12. Maintain a diligent, positive and collaborative attitude amid busy work and visitor conditions.

 

 

 

Qualifications

A) LEAD RECYCLER 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  

1. Must have ability to work with minimum of supervision to complete assigned tasks in a safe, timely and professional manner, while also providing direction to 1-2 other recyclers. Note: this is a highly independent position that requires diligence to staying on schedule and on top of updates to our recycling hauler.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age (could drive a vehicle over one ton).

3. Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with safe driving record and ability to operate 1-ton vehicle.

4. Driver practice testing will be required once on location.

5. Prior knowledge of or interest in learning waste management and overall park-wide environmental programs in order to serve as a resource for fellow employees and park visitors.

6. Prior knowledge recyclable materials, processing methods, and collection systems is favored.

7. Respiratory protection will be worn when required. OSHA standards require a clean-shaven face.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Must be able to lift, push or pull bins with weights of 50-100 pounds on a daily basis

2. Must be able to stand and bend throughout an 8 hour shift

3. Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam provided by Xanterra’s partner clinic

 

AUTHORITIES:

 

- To work with all departments on location to set pickup times and pickup sites for recyclables.

- To help educate departments on location on waste and recycling guidelines to maximize effectiveness of waste diversion efforts.

- To work with Parkwide Recycling Technician and the Gardiner Recycling Center, and Sustainability Department to maintain standards set by Xanterra Parks and Resorts and NPS.

- To respond immediately to any unsafe condition.
