Overview

The basic function of this position is to greet the dining room guests and seat them in an expedient fashion while maintaining a proper flow in the seating sections.

Responsibilities

  • Greet the guests as they approach the podium and make them feel welcome to the dining room.
  • To respond immediately and professionally to guest service issues and report the situation to the manager on duty.
  • For those dining rooms implementing a reservations system, check guests in and inform them of the length of time before they will be seated.
  • Maintain seating log to ensure accurate cover count for the seating period.
  • Prepare and utilize seating charts as appropriate to maintain a proper seating flow and so as to not over seat any sections.
  • Direct the seating rotation within the dining room as appropriate.
  • Complete table checks as needed.
  • Establish and manage “Waiting Lists” as needed, ensuring maximum seating and positive communication with all guests required to wait for a table.
  • Keep menus clean and presentable and report any worn or tattered menus to the management team.
  • Ensure a congenial Dining Room atmosphere.
  • Be knowledgeable of all menus, special services procedures and general guest information.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Dining Room and service areas.
  • Complete side duties within each shift.
  • Handle all guest service issues in an immediate and professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain positive communication and teamwork with all co-workers and supervisors: front and back-of-house.

 

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Food and Beverage operations preferred.
  • Occasional lifting and balancing of Dining Room service trays which may be up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to keep a professional demeanor towards guests and staff under very busy business levels.
  • Ability to absorb information quickly: Menus, reservation systems, Dining Room floor plan.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, approximately 8 hours.
  • Must be able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time.
