Overview

The Two Medicine General Store is a truly unique retail experience, and managing it requires someone just as unique. Working directly with the Retail Support Staff and receiving feedback from the National Park Service, the Two Medicine Manager is expected to be flexible, hard-working, and dedicated to success in this multi-faceted position. From food safety to guest service to accounting skills, this position is a perfect opportunity for someone who appreciates a challenge and makes satisfying guests their number one priority. Along with a full retail store featuring Glacier National Park souvenirs and camping merchandise, the Two Medicine General Store has a small “Café”-style food service operation, featuring a limited hot-food selection and espresso bar. Operating this location requires a ServSafe Manager certification, TIPs Responsible Alcohol Sales certification, and general knowledge of cash-handling experience in a retail environment. The location of this general store requires applicants to have an RV, Motor Home, or Camper, as well as reliable transportation to and from the general store for scheduled shifts (roughly a 15-minute commute). As a manager, you will receive a free RV site for the summer. If hired, you will be required to work a minimum 40-hour week and be flexible in regards to scheduling.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide and ensure excellent guest service by adhering to Xanterra’s Mission Statement, Hospitality Standards and Core Values.
  2. Follow all budgetary guidelines in regards to labor and sales goals.
  3. Maintain a professional and guest-oriented atmosphere in a high-volume retail environment.
  4. Provide initial and ongoing training to all retail associates throughout the season.
  5. Ensure that all retail employees are performing their duties properly. Must be able to boost morale and/or issue disciplinary action when needed.
  6. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other outlets in the Two Medicine area, including the National Park Service, Glacier Park Boat Company, and East Glacier Lodge campground hosts.
  7. Must be able to perform all duties required of a sales associate and Assistant Manager.
  8. Train Assistant Manager in all aspects of operating the general store effectively.
  9. Demonstrate and train good sales techniques by performing suggestive selling and add-on sales.
  10. Ensure the sales floor is kept presentable at all times in regards to safety and guest perception.
  11. Identify and report any outstanding maintenance issues.
  12. Actively participate in any Retail Evaluations completed by the National Park Service and address any concerns or questions. Report back to Support Staff.
  13. Ensure that accurate and helpful information is given to guests at all times.
  14. Alert the Retail Operations Manager to shrinkage, guest problems and concerns as necessary. 
  15. Maintain accurate shop records: reports, transfers, payroll and inventory control.
  16. Act as the location accountant, including:
    1. Daily Safe Audits
    2. Issuing and returning sales associate banks
    3. Making change daily for sales associates
    4. Completing Change Order Requests from General Accounting Office as necessary
    5. Preparing Daily Cash Drops & maintaining daily logs
  17. Receive direct deliveries from suppliers and process the necessary documentation.  Make certain that paperwork is routed correctly and in a timely manner, and that all staff members are trained to do the same in their absence.
  18. Responsible for scheduling, supervising and developing gift shop personnel.
  19. Responsible for maintaining proper employee files, disciplinary action paperwork, and assist with HIG’s and End of Season evaluations.
  20. Work directly with vendor representatives to order product, report shrinkage, and manage inventory levels to provide consistency in stock availability.
  21. Responsible for ordering operating supplies from the Warehouse.
  22. Ensure that registers are routinely cleaned.  Report all register issues promptly. 
  23. Comply with Xanterra’s Environmental Management Systems (Ecologix) and look for ways to improve the impact your job has on the environment. 
  24. If placed at a General Store the following responsibilities apply:
    • Work with the store’s staff to track expiration dates of products and follow health safety protocols.
    • Operate and maintain all food and beverage equipment.
    • Clean espresso machine and ovens daily and soft serve machine weekly.
    • Responsible for ordering operating supplies and food/beverage items from the Warehouse.
    • Responsible for ordering grocery and vendor-supplied products and supplies regularly.
    • Complies with all state laws and Xanterra’s policies regarding the sale of Tobacco and Alcohol.
  25. All other duties as assigned.
  26. Participate in Manager on Duty Program as necessary. 

Qualifications

  1. Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  2. Must have retail experience, including cash handling and sales history.
  3. The ability to accurately handle cash per our cash handling policies.
  4. Must be comfortable with constant guest interaction; utilizes problem-solving abilities while maintaining positive and professional demeanor.
  5. Preferred experience with Raymark.
  6. Able to perform all duties of a Sales Associate, Lead Associate or Assistant Manager.
  7. Able to coach employees to maintain high and consistent standards in the general store.
  8. Understanding of a fast paced seasonal retail operation.
  9. Should have a basic knowledge and understanding of souvenirs, gifts, jewelry and other products sold within the assigned location.
  10. Must be able to pass the approved ServSafe Training Program and maintain exceptional food safety standards.
  11. Must be able to pass the TIP’s Off-Premise training program and understand the requirements of responsible alcohol sales.
  12. Able to work with no supervision.  Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  13. Demonstrate awareness of general store security and theft prevention.
  14. Driver’s license preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Able to stand/walk for a minimum eight-hour shift.
  2. Frequently lift and carry cartons weighing up to 50 lbs.
  3. Carry boxes/product up and down stairs or stepladders at most locations several times a day.
  4. Must be able to bend down or kneel to stock product frequently during a shift.
  5. Must know how to safely operate a hand-truck to assist in moving heavy items.

 

AUTHORITIES:

 

  • Maintain gift shop hours and adhering to opening and closing procedures.
  • Represents the Retail Department in dealing with guest problems and concerns.
  • Determine personnel schedules and payroll; delegate and supervise shop assignments.
  • Coach employees, as needed, within the guidelines of Company policy.
