Heidi’s Coffee Shop is a fast paced coffee shop that has a limited food menu, limited snacks and a small amount retail items for our purchase. This coffee shop is the only coffee shop located within Glacier National Park. It’s an extremely busy operation when it comes to making coffee. It’s located at the bottom of the spiral staircase in the historic Many Glacier Hotel. You ensure that the highest standards of coffee, retail and food service are met for the guests, the company, and the National Park Service. The manager is responsible for directly overseeing all activity at Heidi’s. They are to provide exceptional guidance, training, and leadership for their staff, including the Assistant Manager. They must provide professional guest service in a teamwork oriented, fast-paced environment, and must be able to perform the physical duties required for operation. Retail managers are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours a week and should be flexible in regards to scheduling.



  1. Provide and ensure excellent guest service by adhering to Xanterra’s Mission Statement, Hospitality Standards and Core Values.
  2. Follow all budgetary guidelines in regards to labor and sales goals.
  3. Maintain a professional and guest-oriented atmosphere in a high-volume outlet.
  4. Provide initial and ongoing training to all employee’s throughout the season.
  5. Ensure all employees are performing their duties properly.
  6. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other departments, including Location Managers and department heads.
  7. Must comply with all ServeSafe guidelines and operate a safe food/coffee service area.
  8. Maintain an appropriate level of all food / beverage for the changing demand during the day.
    1. Fostering the goal of minimizing waste and providing good quality product.
  9. Demonstrate and train good sales techniques by performing suggestive selling and add-on sales.
  10. Ensure the sales floor is kept presentable at all times in regards to safety and guest perception.
  11. Ensure that accurate and helpful information is given to guests at all times.
  12. Alert the Retail Operations Manager to shrinkage, guest problems and concerns as necessary. 
  13. Maintain accurate shop records: reports, transfers, payroll and inventory control.
  14. Receive direct deliveries from suppliers and process the necessary documentation.  Make certain that paperwork is routed correctly and in a timely manner, and that all staff members are trained to do the same in the absence of a manager.
  15. Responsible for scheduling, supervising and developing personnel.
  16. Responsible for maintaining proper employee files, disciplinary action paperwork, and assist with HIG’s and End of Season evaluations.
  17. Work directly with vendor representatives to order product, report shrinkage, and manage inventory levels to provide consistency in stock availability.
  18. Ensure that registers are routinely cleaned.  Report all register issues promptly. 
  19. Comply with Xanterra’s Environmental Management Systems (Ecologix) and look for ways to improve the impact your job has on the environment.
  20. Work with the entire store to track expiration dates of products and follow health safety protocols.
  21. Operate and maintain all food and beverage equipment and retail fixtures.
  22. Responsible for ordering operating supplies and food/beverage items from the Warehouse.
  23. Complies with all state laws and Xanterra’s policies regarding the sale of Tobacco and Alcohol.
  24. All other duties assigned.




  1. Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  2. Must have retail experience, including cash handling and sales history.
  3. The ability to accurately handle cash per our cash handling policies.
  4. Must be comfortable with constant guest interaction; utilizes problem-solving abilities while maintaining positive and professional demeanor.
  5. Preferred, experience with Raymark.
  6. Must have strong delegation skills.
  7. Able to perform all duties of a Sales Associate, Lead Associate or Assistant Manager.
  8. Able to coach employees to maintain high and consistent standards in the gift shop.
  9. Understanding of a fast paced seasonal retail operation.
  10. Should have a basic knowledge and understanding of souvenirs, gifts, jewelry and other products sold within the assigned location.
  11. Must be able to pass the approved ServSafe Manager Training Program at certain locations.
  12. Have an understanding of food service and previous food experience preferred.
  13. Have an understanding of coffee shops and past experience is preferred.
  14. Able to work with no supervision.  Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  15. Demonstrate awareness of security and theft prevention.
  16. Driver’s license preferred.



  1. Reports directly to the Retail Operations Manager
  2. Represents the Retail Department in handling guest concerns, resolving problems in a professional manner to please our visitors.
  3. Maintain hours and adhere to opening and closing procedures.
  4. Determine schedule and manage payroll; delegate and supervise shop assignments.
  5. Coach employees, as needed, within the guidelines of Xanterra’s policy.
  6. Handle all issues that arise in the shop regarding to; guests, employees or other departments.
  7. Deal effectively with all vendors that deliver directly to the store.



  1. Able to stand/walk for a minimum eight-hour shift.
  2. Frequently lift and carry cartons weighing up to 50 lbs.
  3. Carry boxes/product up and down stairs or stepladders at most locations several times a day.
  4. Must be able to bend down or kneel to stock product frequently during a shift.
  5. Must know how to safely operate a hand-truck to assist in moving heavy items.
