Overview

Under direction of Risk Manager this position is responsible for insuring the safety and security of all Grand Canyon Railway properties by conducting regular inspections of all facilities, documenting the night’s incidences and informing the Manager on Duty and Risk Manager. The employee must be able to calmly deal with medical, fire, security and/or safety situations. In addition, must be able to interact effectively and in a non-confrontational manner with guests, employees and other designated officials.

Responsibilities

  • Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.             
  • Insure the safety and security of all Grand Canyon Railway properties by conducting regular inspections of all facilities.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with all fire notification and evacuation plans and the use of fire extinguishing equipment.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with emergency medical notification procedures.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with local Law Enforcement and other designated officials.
  • Investigate any guest or employee complaints or incidents.
  • Resolve situations within your control and within guidelines established by Risk Management.
  • Document the night’s incidents and inform the Manager on Duty and the Risk Manager so that they may take additional corrective action to ensure guest and employee safety is maintained.
  • Prepare a written report of the night’s activities; being detailed in times, dates, names and/or descriptions of people involved in incidents, detailed descriptions of those incidents that refrain from personal comment.
  • SECURITY IS NOT AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE WRITTEN ACTIONS.
  • Provide shuttle service to guests and employees throughout the Grand Canyon Railway properties.
  • Adhere to all safety, Risk Management and environmental policies.
  • Enroll, attend and successfully complete ongoing training classes as determined by the Risk Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and comply with the Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy. Must be at least nineteen years of age at time of hire to meet Xanterra/GCR vehicle policy.
  • Must possess evidence of current training in First Aid, CPR and AED or become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and problem solving skills; plus ability to interact effectively and in a non-confrontational manner with guests, employees and other designated officials.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments and guests by demonstrating a teamwork orientation and by displaying positive, friendly interactions with co-workers and manager.
  • Ability to calmly deal with medical, fire, security and/or safety situations.
  • Working knowledge of radio communications.
  • Ability to work without supervision and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel to enter, track and modify data in Lost & Found document.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in carrying out daily job duties, organize and manage multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to read and understand written material, including equipment operating instructions, safety and first aid instructions, MSDS sheets and manufacturer’s manuals.
  • Maintain acceptable level of performance and positive image, to complete tasks in a safe, professional, productive and efficient manner.
